Using Zotero MCP in Claude, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Cline, or Zed?

MCP tool contracts can change remotely with no version bump. The mcpindex gate pins each contract and HOLDs the call when it drifts-before your agent acts. Zero credentials. This is not the package install for this server itself (use Install this server for that).

ZOTERO_LOCAL

Use the local API from the Zotero desktop app instead of the Web API. Requires Zotero to be running with 'Allow other applications on this computer to communicate with Zotero' enabled under Settings > Advanced.

Zotero Web API key from https://www.zotero.org/settings/keys. Not required when ZOTERO_LOCAL is true.

ZOTERO_LIBRARY_ID

Zotero library ID (your user ID for user libraries). Not required when ZOTERO_LOCAL is true.

ZOTERO_LIBRARY_TYPE

Whether ZOTERO_LIBRARY_ID refers to a user or group library.
